Role purpose

The Supply Chain Director is an exciting new role being created on the Senior Leadership Team to help lead the implementation of a new ERP system which will require many new business processes.  In addition, the person will be responsible for managing a significant spend and team responsible for purchasing, planning, internal DSD fleet and 3rd party providers.

Responsibilities:

ERP Implementation / Supply Chain Planning

  • Accountable for ensuring that the new ERP is configured correctly, business processes are defined and people are trained to ensure production forecasts, MPS and MRP all work to maximize customer fill rate while optimizing inventory levels and production costs (associated with changeovers)
  • Key member of the implementation team and then responsible for ensuring that disciplined processes are maintained over time and that planning, purchasing, warehousing and production are all utilizing the system effectively
  • Responsible for ensuring that effective demand and supply planning processes (including S&OP) continue to evolve and improve including identifying capacity constraints and working cross-functionally to resolve

Purchasing

  • Manages department of two salaried employees who negotiate pricing as well as place orders for all ingredients and packaging
  • Identifies opportunities to improve processes to ensure that production always has what they need even with frequent changes to production plans
  • In addition, works with the Continuous Improvement Manager to source ingredients and packaging that will help to streamline / simplify processes and reduce costs

Fleet

  • Responsible for a team of 3 salaried employees, 20 unionized drivers and 20 vans that deliver cakes to most parts of Ontario 5 days per week
  • Oversees decisions related to equipment, people and routes to try to reduce costs

3rd Party Logistics Providers Management

  • Negotiate rates with 3rd party freezers and carriers
  • Manage the relationships with these parties and ensure appropriate service levels are maintained
  • Approve all invoices and ensure costs are being accrued correctly for month end accounting

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead all reengineering efforts as they relate to supply chain management
  • Establish and monitor key performance metrics in the areas of customer service and cost
  • Ability to build solid relationships in order to coordinate and collaborate with senior management, Customer Service team, Plant Manager and team, suppliers, and third-party service providers

Knowledge & Skills

  • University degree in Industrial Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science or Business preferred
  • 5-10 years experience preferably in a food manufacturing environment with short shelf-life products, low levels of inventory and high expectations on customer fill rate
  • Demonstrated understanding of integrated supply chain and logistic concepts including fleet optimization software
  • Experience with implementing a modern ERP tool a necessity
  • Management experience with proven ability to coach and develop a team
  • Ability to work well in a fast paced environment
  • Enjoys putting out fires but actually prefers to put solutions in place to prevent the issues from reoccurring
  • Analytically savvy with great attention to detail
  • Innovative and capable of thinking outside the box to resolve problems

  • Highly results oriented
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
